Practice hospitality

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. 10 Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. 11 Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. 12 Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. 13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Romans 12

I have been amused lately by asking random strangers while I am out and about if they have started decorating for Christmas. Almost universally, they have said yes. We had a rule in previous years that we would not start decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving was over. In recent years, however, I am decorating for Christmas by Veterans Day. I’m guessing a lot of people are breaking their own rules these days.

My theory is that as public discourse becomes more and more toxic, people start to pull the joy of the holidays forward. They respond to the negativity by going home, as they should.

On that note, this is a photograph of one of Kanye West’s services at a Houston prison. There is a lot of good in this world, if you choose to see it.

  1. Gorgeous tree!!!!! Very happy to see the good and beautiful in this world! My husband really really wants us to wait until after Thanksgiving, so I honor him in that and we wait.

I need to get better Thanksgiving decorations though, all I have is a ceramic turkey, which we all love since it’s passed down from family, but I need something else LOL!

    1. My husband made a fall-themed centerpiece in our dining room this year. I was so shocked, because decorating is definitely not his thing in general. He bought a giant pot of beautiful orange and yellow chrysanthemums – which look amazing in the room because it’s painted yellow and they match it perfectly – and leaves, corn, and gourds. I woke up one morning, and he had set it all up. I couldn’t believe it.
