Big 3 automakers close, Trump is going into manufacturing business

There are 6,500 coronavirus cases in the US and 119 deaths, half of which happened in a single suburban Seattle nursing home.

Ford, General Motors and Fiat Chrysler agreed to close all of their factories in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, putting 150,000 people out of work today.

A major hospitality company in New York City just laid off 2,000 people.

That’s in addition to the millions out of work across the country in restaurants, bars, etc.

Trump is trying to cancel out the job losses by invoking wartime powers under the Defense Protection Act. The act was intended to allow the government to ramp up defense manufacturing during times of war. In this instance, he is talking about hiring people to punch out medical equipment. So people will still be manufacturing, just getting paid by taxpayers.

I’m really kind of wondering how our government is going to find the money to substitute the incomes of everyone put out of work during this panic.
