This is the paper that scared state and local governments into demolishing their economies this week. The authors use an epidemic modeling software program to estimate the effect of the pandemic using data from the experiences in China, Italy, and South Korea and conclude that several million people in the US will die if we do not lock down all social and business activity in its entirety.
I am finding it difficult to believe that a single paper based off of single software program has destroyed the global economy in half a week. Where a major part of the data comes from a country did minimal testing and suppressed all information on the spread of the disease, likely overstating the death rate to avoid divulging the full extent of its infectiousness to an angry and scared population.
Oh, and they think this needs to last for several months.
