Florida alone saw 324,718 new filings. According to the Miami Herald, Florida had 1.5 million unemployment claims as of a couple days ago, but only a small amount of people were actually receiving payments. That’s how dysfunctional the state’s system is.
This does not capture the true economic situation in the US, however. A lot more people have seen reduced hours and reduced pay. And there were millions of people unemployed before the crisis that are not reflected in the cumulative number.
Dumbest policy decision in US history.
