I have never understood this line of reasoning, that the Olympics are so important. It may factor into when China undertakes some military initiatives of its own, but why Russia? There is even precedent for this in recent memory. The Russo-Georgian War occurred during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The whole thing was a shock to athletes competing there.
